Jan Swanson: Loves When Things Just Aren’t Quite Right

A self-described crazy, perceptive, intuitive with a folky-meets-modern vibe, Jan Swanson is definitely a one-of-a-kind artist. Which makes her the perfect fit for Art & Light Gallery. A Clemson graduate, she entered the corporate world in the field of public relations until she had an epiphany: fitting into the corporate world was easier said than done and more resembled a square peg trying to fit in a round hole.

Inspired by color found in her observed world, she feels spoken to by things out of the ordinary.  Though always a creative soul, she didn’t fully embrace that side of herself until she left the corporate environment.

With a father who sold fabric and furniture, that really influenced her, she was inspired by large containers of fabric where tons of fabric were housed. Pattern, texture, and furniture abounded for this emerging young artist at heart.

Her process is rare: she sees something, and what she paints closely resembles it, yet she winds up taking the path less traveled and ends up with something completely different. Like a house with shutters falling off, her painting is not quite right unless something is just not quite right.

If there’s one thing we know about Jan Swanson and her work, it’s that they are perfectly imperfect in every possible way, which makes them absolutely the right fit for collectors near and far.
