Nice To Meet You | Meet the A&L Gallery Gals

Teresa Roche

Meet our founder and owner Teresa!

In 2010 Teresa purchased the parsonage house at 16 Aiken Street. The house became the heart of a concept that grew from the home of six working artist studios to the contemporary gallery that it is today.

As the gallery grew over the years, Teresaโ€™s vision expanded to include Teresa Roche Textiles (TRT), a creative endeavor driven by Rocheโ€™s artistic practice and love of partnering original artwork with interior design.

Today, Teresa Roche Textiles provides unique wallpaper and textile production that fits seamlessly with residential and corporate design. All of the Teresa Roche Textile fabric and wallpaper patterns are created from Teresaโ€™s original artwork in collage and mixed media painting.

Three Questions with Teresa:

Q: Is there a beauty product you canโ€™t live without?

A: My very favorite product and has been for over 30 years is the Lancome Lash Booster โ€“ itโ€™s a great primer before the mascara goes on and without it I literally have no lashesโ€ฆ

Q: Do you have a favorite artist or artists?

A: I have lots of favorite living artists but my favorite non-living is Richard Diebenkorn.

Q: Youโ€™re so busy! How do you like to unwind at the end of a busy day?

A: A glass of wine by the fire with my hubby catching up on the day  or a night time studio project

Bracken Sansbury

Meet our Gallery Director Bracken!

Bracken is a North Carolina girl who has made her home in Greenville and at the helm of Art & Light since 2017.  With more than 17 years of experience managing galleries and a passion for artists and approachable gallery design, Brackenโ€™s leadership has helped to make Art & Light the thriving creative hub it is today. She is a skilled art consultant whose expertise helps every art collector connect with the perfect piece.

Bracken loves to travel almost as much as she loves cooking and staying home with her two pups and her husband.

Three Questions with Bracken:

Q: What were your hobbies as a child?

A: One of my more interesting childhood hobbies was vaulting. I literally did gymnastic routines on the back of actual horses!

Q: Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?

A: This is so hard! I love to travel and have found I love the beach equally to the mountains and even the desert. If I HAD to choose a favorite travel location, I would have to say Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island, but as long as I get variety in my travels, I am happy!

Q: If you werenโ€™t a gallery director what would your profession be?

A: Another good one! I fancy myself a home chef, but I am also super interested in what makes people tick, so I'm torn between chef and psychologist.

Liz Rundorff Smith

Meet our Assistant Gallery Director Liz!

With more than twenty years of experience working in arts administration and as an artist, Liz brings a wealth of art knowledge to the A&L team.  She moved to Greenville in 2006 to work for Artisphere while maintaining her studio practice. Liz heads up marketing for exhibitions and special events while also providing client support here in the gallery during business hours.

When not in the gallery or studio Liz spends time with her two daughters and husband at home in Travelers Rest.

Three Questions with Liz:

Q: Why barrel jeans?!

A: I know two years from now I will deeply regret them, but at the moment barrel jeans fill the comfy but low key stylish vibe that fits my life. I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll ever wear tight jeans again.

Q:  You arenโ€™t from Greenville so what has made you stay here?

A: I just sort of got settled enough that it would be hard to move. Iโ€™ve made great friends, started a family, bought a house, worked in the arts, settled into my studio practice . . . so everything I dreamed of is here!

Q: Whatโ€™s your favorite scent?

A: Sandalwood and coffee, specifically with simple syrup and cream (not at the same time)

Chloe Compton

Meet our Gallery Director Bracken!

Chloe grew up in Greenwood, SC and recently received an MFA from Winthrop University where she worked in multiple disciplines including ceramics, sculpture, photography, painting and installation. She is excited to bring her years of academic study to the gallery world and to connect artists with collectors.

When Chloe isn't spending time outdoors finding cool branches and bird watching she is working in the studio printing and working with clay, with her two cats of course.

Three Questions with Chloe:

Q: Do you have a favorite author?

A: A very difficult question, because it depends on the genre. I've recently been reading the book โ€œThe Overstoryโ€ by Richard Powers and the story he tells is incredible. I would highly recommend the book to anyone who loves nature and family histories.

Q: If you could travel to any destination in the world, where would you go?

A: I would love to travel back to Wales. I was fortunate to be able to visit in 2022 in the early spring with my boyfriend and his family. Iโ€™d love to go back during the summertime and get a chance to explore more of the landscape.

Q: Do you have a favorite season?

A: That's a really tough question for me too! There are so many amazing colors in fall and spring, but winter is when so many lines and shapes of the landscape are revealed! If I had to pick I would have to say late fall! Its the perfect season to document the changing colors in the landscape, and the decrease in foliage allows excellent bird watching!

We're so happy you are here following along and cannot wait to help you find the works of art that bring joy and life to your space.

Happy Collecting!
